The National Center for Families Learning, a private nonprofit organization located in Louisville, KY, is seeking a Manager, Publications and Editing to work collaboratively to lead and create publication and editorial processes to produce high-quality family literacy, family learning, and family engagement materials that position NCFL as a leading expert in education. This role will focus on and oversee consistency of message, style, inclusivity, and cultural diversity, reading levels, grammar, and developmental editing of NCFL publications, and will create and manage the timelines for delivery of the final product. The Manager, Publications will also create, edit, and contribute to content strategies for NCFL digital properties, blog posts, and other writing and editorial projects as assigned. This is a remote position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work as a member of the External Affairs team to support department goals and objectives related to NCFL's 60x30 vision
  • Create and maintain a schedule for timely roll-out of NCFL publications
  • Oversee consistency of message, style, inclusivity, and cultural diversity, reading levels, grammar, and developmental editing of NCFL publications
  • Create, edit, and contribute to content strategies for NCFL digital properties, blog posts, newsletters, leadership briefs, evaluation data highlights, reports, and other publications distributed by NCFL
  • Experience producing work for different types of publications (length, style, digital versus print)
  • The ability to coordinate and manage the publications process for multiple projects at once
  • Superior time management skills and the ability to take on a high volume of work at a faster than average pace
  • Adept at weaving research into publications
  • Vendor and publisher sourcing, communications, management
  • Responsible for the entire coordination and administration of the publications process
  • Graphic design or multimedia capabilities preferred but not required
  • Key player in helping the organization to achieve annual publications goals
  • Perform editorial tasks such as developmental editing, line editing, proofreading, or a combination thereof for publications distributed by NCFL
  • Support production of Families Learning Conference Program
  • Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree at minimum
  • Demonstrated experience in writing and editing with an earned degree in one of the following: education, educational programming, English, communications, journalism, creative writing, or related fields
  • Three years, minimum, experience writing, editing, and proofreading print or digital content (education-related or other research areas preferred)
  • Experience in organizing and managing projects on deadline, setting intermediary check points/due dates for content delivery; communication of needs for projects
  • Knowledgeable in educational design theory
  • Experience uploading content via various digital platforms; cognizant of layout requirements
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly WORD
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Google Docs
  • Ability to work with and manage writing processes with multiple authors
  • An unwavering belief that all families want the best for their children and deserve to be treated with respect and dignity
  • Proven track record of ambitious results in previous roles
  • Self-awareness, a regular practice of reflection, and a desire to continuously improve
  • Skilled at collaborative action planning and execution
  • Travel approximately 30% of time including occasional evenings and weekends

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Prolonged period of sitting at a desk and working at a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds at times
  • Communicating with others to exchange information
  • Ability to travel

Salary range $50,000-$60,000
